I left them a comment:
Quote:
Juxtaposing "World Of Warcraft" against "EVE Online" is like comparing the mental abilities of Homer Simpson against those of Ezra Pound.
Average WOW player is used to instant gratification game, where his or her actions have absolutely zero consequence in the grand scheme of things. As opposed to EVE, where the actions of a player can, and do have profound effects on the community.
Also, imagine the grand WOW servers, with what, 5-6, fine, lets be generous, 9 thousand players? And one, single, unbroken, seamless, universe of EVE, where you can find about 15 to 25 thousand players - AT ANY GIVEN TIME 23/7. And, to top it all off, players in EVE can interact with other 100,000 users by means of single market and compete for resources against them as well.
If you really want to know things about EVE, try playing for more than 7 days. As a mater of fact, no one will grasp the true vastness and amazing depth of this game unless they spent a good few months playing.
Nothing is safe in EVE, nothing is sacred, it is a brutal environment where you have to be constantly on alert. Technically you do not even have to PVP, you can fight other players by becoming a super industrialist or trader - then PVP "market" style.
Lets see, open ended universe, compete against and with other players, complex political system, complex - player driven - market system, no 'end-game', a team of developers (who despite what some people say) truly care about the game and it's community, yep, I agree, EVE is definitely not WOW - I must say, thank GOD for small favors.
Q: Is EVE Online an enjoyable experience for someone with an attention span of a Marmoset Monkey? A: Nope, it is not.
Q: Is EVE Online an enjoyable experience for someone who is patient, pays attention to detail, is mature, and is capable to suffer significant losses and persevere against them? A: Yes, definitely, EVE requires time. It is extremely immersive, and will most likely become a good hobby, if you can handle it.
I quit EVE three times, always had to take a break for one reason or another, and I always came back. It is still the best bloody MMORPG out there - at least until someone comes up with a better and more immersive and comprehensive world. When that happens, I will go there, but I would not hold my breath on this happening anytime soon.
